In the course of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU-GDPR), new information obligations are required from data controllers of personal data. According to Art. 13 EU- GDPR, we therefore inform you of the following points:

Purposes for processing your personal data:

  • Implementation of the project: African German Young Leaders in Business (AGYLE)
  • Selection of suitable candidates to participate in the AGYLE programme

Legal basis for processing your personal data:

EU-GDPR Art. 6 (1) a) allows us to process your data based on your consent for specific purposes, e.g. when providing optional information or subscribing to our newsletter. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of the data processing that had been carried out until your consent was withdrawn.
EU-GDPR Art. 6 (1) b) covers the processing of data necessary for the performance of a contract or for the implementation of pre-contractual measures, e.g. processing your application, registration on the project website and enabling your participation in the AGYLE programme.

EU-GDPR Art. 6 (1) c) allows us to process your data on the basis of a legal obligation, e.g. retention obligations under financial and tax law.

EU-GDPR Art. 6 (1) e) allows us to process your data to fulfil our tasks in the public interest, e.g. in the context of reporting to GIZ's public commissioning and funding bodies.

EU GDPR Art. 6 (1) f) allows us to process your personal data if GIZ or a third party has legitimate interests in such processing and your interests, fundamental rights or freedoms do not conflict with that processing, e.g.: when implementing measures to protect the life, health and freedom of employees and programme participants, and to protect the property and IT systems of GIZ.

Data retention

Data will not be stored longer than necessary to fulfil the purpose of the project, or as required by law. Data of applicants not selected as participants will be deleted after six (6) months.
If storage is based on your consent, we will delete your personal data if you withdraw your consent.

Recipients of your personal data:

Your data will be stored and processed by GIZ primarily internally as part of the selection process. We may additionally share your data with external service providers, public administration offices or other third parties if there is a valid legal basis to do so.

Service providers employed by us may receive your data to fulfil the purposes described, provided that they comply with the confidentiality requirements under data-protection law. These are for example, companies of the categories: Website agency, social media agency, IT services, printing and shipping services, logistics companies, data eradication. These service providers are so-called external processors, which are contractually obligated to adhere to legal requirements.
In the context of the selection procedure and your participation in the AGYLE programme, your data will be passed on to the following recipients in particular:

  • Land der Ideen Management GmbH for the purpose of providing the applicant form as an instruction-bound processor of GIZ as well as for the purpose of preparing and implementing the press work in the context of the AGYLE programme.
  • Agentur für Wirtschaft und Entwicklung (AWE) (German Agency for Business and Economic Development) as a project of the Bundesministeriums für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) jointly supported by GIZ and DEG Impulse - Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft Impulse gGmbH (German Investment Corporation).
  • WLDX GmbH, Oranienstraße 183/184, 10999 Berlin, Germany; for the purpose of operating the website.
  • Social media: Roman Hänsler DIGITAL CONTENT, Spandauer Straße 2, 10178 Berlin, Germany; for the purpose of press relations.
  • Selection committee (link) for the purpose of selecting the programme participants.

Your data protection rights:

You have the right to obtain information under Article 15 EU GDPR; the right to rectification under Article 16 EU GDPR; the right to erasure under Article 17 EU GDPR; the right to restriction of processing under Article 18 EU GDPR; the right to data portability under Article 20 EU GDPR; and the right to object under Article 21 EU GDPR. If the processing is based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of the consent until receipt of the withdrawal.

In addition, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection supervisory authority in accordance with Article 77 EU-DSGVO. The pertinent authority is the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI).

The requirement for providing data results is derived from the respective processing purposes. Failure to provide data required in the context of the selection procedure may mean that your application will not be considered.

There are no automated decisions in individual cases, including profiling.
