Sara Nuru

Entrepreneur, model, speaker, author and founder of the association nuruWomen e.V

Sara Nuru is a model, author and founder of the social business nuruCoffee and the association nuruWomen e.V. In 2018, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) appointed Nuru, a native of Erdingen (Bavaria, Germany), as an ambassador for fair trade.

Since 2009, Nuru has supported the Karlheinz Böhm Ethiopia Aid "Menschen für Menschen". For years, she travelled to schools throughout Germany to fundraise with students for the education project "Generation ABC-2015". In 2012, the first Sara Nuru School was opened in the southwest of Ethiopia. Now 1100 students have access to a better education; a total of three schools were built as part of this education programme.

Since 2016, Nuru has been increasingly involved in promoting women in Ethiopia, for which she founded the social business nuruCoffee, together with her sister Sali Nuru. With the sale of fair-trade coffee, they promote microcredits, training and continuing education for women in Ethiopia. To implement these projects they founded the association nuruWomen.

In November 2018, Federal Development Minister Gerd Müller appointed Sara Nuru as Ambassador for Sustainable Consumption and Production of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
