An assistance system for air traffic controllers intends to heighten aviation safety using language recognition
Lufthansa Two November Charlie, reduce speed to 290 knots. When the employee in the tower gives instructions to the pilot, the new assistance system for landing approaches listens. After all, it is there to assist the air traffic controller with his work. A built-in language recognition system helps him. It evaluates all of the commands conveyed to the pilot via telephony and thus does not rely solely on radar data. The first prototype, developed by researchers at Saarland University together with the German Aerospace Centre, shows how computer linguistics can be used to heighten safety in aviation.
