Aqua solar village – energy self-sufficient living on water
A house on a lake
Researchers test energy-saving living on water
What will living be like in the future? In a floating research station, scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) together with the Maas-Roeloffs gravel works and other partners, tested how an energy-plus house can work on water. Heating energy is generated from a quarry pond using a water pump, and collectors produce electricity from solar power - even using the light reflected on the surface of the water. The idea does not only make energy self-sufficient living possible, but also creates new building land on former gravel areas. In the future, a complete aqua solar village is to be established on water.
