Arche region in the Elbe river landscape
New home for old domestic animal breeds
A region breeds threatened domestic animals and thus gives new impetus to rural life and work
Whether it’s pigs with red bristles, colourful spring chickens, or cows with snow-white fur – many old farm animals are kept and bred in the Arche region in the Elbe river landscape. Half of the domestic animal breeds threatened with extinction graze here outdoors. This benefits sparrows, crickets, and grass frogs. The 16 certified Arche farms offer people who live in the structurally weak regions work. Farm shops, festivals, and tours are attracting more and more people.
