ARRIVO Berlin "simulation" workshops
Integration at the work bench
An initiative makes asylum seekers and refugees in workshops fit for launching a career and refers them to companies
Khalid is a painter, Fares a mechanic. They are just two of many refugees who want to stay and work in Germany. But it is not easy for asylum seekers to find jobs, although many skilled-labour industries lack young workers. ARRIVO Berlin brings companies and refugees together. With language courses and practical work in simulated workshops, the initiative - assisted by the Berlin Senate Administration for Labour, Integration, and Women's Affairs, the Berlin Chamber of Skilled Crafts, guilds, and companies - prepares the refugees for starting work and refers them to companies. This combats the dearth of specialist workers and promotes integration.
