"Art for democracy"
Creative protest against neo-Nazis
Art actions pave the way for democratic participation
In the Schönhausen district of Berlin, right-wing extremists continually try to appropriate the park next to the palace where Otto von Bismarck was born. Under the slogan “art for democracy”, residents of the district transform the park into a colourful open-air exhibition once a year. With theatre, sculptures, and paintings they embrace democratic values and make the park unappealing to neo-Nazis. Art workshops and information events are staged. The project promotes democratic awareness and active engagement with the issue of right-wing extremism.
