Aufbau Haus on Moritzplatz
Promoting local culture and creative industry
A privately financed cultural centre is drawing creative people, artists, and tourists to a square that used to be deserted
A meeting point where artists and creative people can be inspired: the Aufbau Haus in the heart of Berlin is this and much more. Since 2011, it has transformed Moritzplatz, a square in Kreuzberg that used to be virtually empty, into a lively creative centre. Culture vultures from all over the world are drawn to the former factory building: There are publishing houses on the upper floors, a kindergarten under the roof, a theatre and club in the cellar, and in between “Planet Modulor” with various trade, crafts, and gastronomy companies. This example shows how privately financed creative industry can be a success.
