Banda Internationale – integration through music
Fighting prejudice with drums beating and trumpets sounding
A band plays music with refugees to promote integration and enrich the local cultural scene
A good song and everyone dances. It doesn't matter where they come from. Music connects people across language barriers and prejudices. The members of the Dresden-based Banda Comunale want to take advantage of this. Together with refugee musicians, they have founded a new formation: the Banda Internationale. The group's repertoire includes traditional songs from all of the band members' native countries. The musicians have already been booked for some weddings, family celebrations, and city festivals around Dresden. During rehearsals and performances, the refugees make contact with locals and at the same time enrich Dresden's cultural scene.
