„Berlin for the blind” Internet portal
Hearing, smelling, and tasting the German capital
An online platform offers the visually impaired travel and cultural tips
Berlinfuerblinde.de, the first website with travel and cultural tips accessible to the visually impaired, provides audio commentaries and high-contrast graphical displays on well-known sights such as the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin television tower. In addition, it recommends places where Berlin can be heard, smelled, tasted, and grasped, including the Berliner Philharmonie concert hall, a perfume store, and a place where gourmet chocolates are manufactured. But the organizers of the project want more. They seek to sensitize providers of leisure-time and cultural offers to the wishes of people with impairments to enable them to participate in society.
