Bioplastic facade
A boon for builders
A new plastic enables building on the basis of renewable raw materials
In the future, construction projects in cities and municipalities will require ever-stronger plastics manufactured from renewable raw materials rather than expensive crude oil. Together with business partners, the Institute for Building Structures and Structural Design (ITKE) at Stuttgart University has developed an environmentally friendly, plant-based bioplastic. What is unique is that it can be processed into all kinds of shapes and forms just as easily as conventional plastics. It can be used, for example, to manufacture ecologically sustainable facade panels used by architects to create 3D effects on buildings.
