Bürgerwerke – cooperative network for regional ecoelectricity
An energy revolution for everyone
Cooperatives supply regions throughout Germany with "citizen-owned" ecoelectricity
If one can't do it, many can. This was the idea of the founders of the Bürgerwerke, or "Citizens' Works", and they built a Germany-wide network for energy cooperatives and around 10,000 committed people who rely on ecoelectricity. In doing so, the Bürgerwerke themselves became energy suppliers They provide green electricity that helps smaller cooperatives reliably supply their region with solar, wind, and water energy so that the added value remains local. The proceeds are used for further joint projects, for example new power plants. The goal is to supply the regions solely with "citizen-owned" ecoelectricity.
