Building material from bulrush
Insulating with leaves
A swamp plant is used to make environmentally friendly insulating panels
As a water plant, the bulrush is ideally equipped to cope with moisture. Tannins protect it from mould and the structure of its leaves makes it light and stable. So how can these characteristics benefit people? Typha technik has developed a sustainable building material combining all of the bulrush’s qualities: The material is durable, mould-resistant, and highly insulating. Unlike other insulating materials, it can be manufactured and composted using little energy. In addition, by growing bulrushes moors can be renaturated as biotopes and reservoirs for carbon-dioxide.
