C-Brace orthosis system
A computer-controlled leg orthotic allows users maximum mobility and independence
The number of people affected by paralysis as a result of strokes, degenerative diseases, or traumatic nerve damage is on the uptick. In cases of incomplete paralysis of the lower extremities, the affected leg is often stiffened with an orthotic. Even though this offers those fitted with an orthotic a certain degree of security and mobility, secondary diseases can occur because of compensatory movements and a restricted range of movement. This is where the C-Brace comes in.
While existing solutions are limited to simply locking and opening the orthotic joint, the C-Brace supports the user throughout the entire gait cycle and adapts in real time to everyday situations. 3D motion-sensors detect the position of the user’s leg. Using smart phone apps, the joint can be adapted to the patient’s medical needs, and the patient can choose between separate, individually adjustable modes geared to changing everyday situations, such as walking, sitting, or cycling. This means that the patient does no longer has to concentrate on his gait or the condition of the ground, and can again join the flow of normal life.
