Children's academy in a rural region – art instead of TV
From kindergarten to the studio
An artist introduces village children from uneducated families to painting, photography, and music
In the town of Ferdinandshof in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, even children can study the arts. At the Angelika Janz’s children’s academy, they can find out which “subject” they are interested in. For example, young participants learn about the life and work of famous artists from texts and pictures; in the “mebook”, they work with pencils and brushes themselves and capture their lives in photos and pictures making use of various art techniques. And on excursions to museums and artists’ studios in the surrounding area, they get to know their region better. In workshops for disabled and non-disabled children, socially disadvantaged kids in the country have the opportunity to experience art and culture intensely, assisted by volunteer senior citizens.
