Combine harvester to tractor: please come
Mobile radio and sensor technology make farmers' work easier
Agricultural machines that “talk” with one another? This may sound like a pipe dream, but it’s already reality. This innovation was developed within the framework of “Farming 4.0”, a pilot project of Deutsche Telekom in conjunction with CLASS in Hinsdorf in the German federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. When a combine harvester recognizes that its grain tank is full, it reports this automatically. Tractor and trailer are waiting for the grain to be emptied. Waiting times are avoided, work processes optimized, and farmworkers relieved of unnecessary stress. The machines are equipped with sensors that send data via mobile radio in seconds and convey information about the state of the harvest to drivers in real time. High-tech revolutionises harvest work, turning individuals into team players.
