COBI – system for networked cycling
The two-wheeled steed becomes a networked jack-of-all-trades
A digital system can turn any bicycle into a smart bike easily and inexpensively
Smart cars are commonplace today but where are the intelligent bicycles? The founders of a start-up company in Frankfurt asked themselves this question and developed a system for networked cycling: "The Smartest Connected Bike System for Everyone (COBI)". A smartphone becomes a control centre that is latched onto the handlebars with a special mobile phone case. With a manually operated app, cyclists see real time data such as their speed, pedalling frequency, and energy consumption, as well as a high-quality route navigation, and they control a music player or make phone calls. The COBI package includes an anti-theft device as well as modern LED head- and taillights that switch on and off automatically.
