Conflictfood – food from crisis areas

Saffron instead of opium

A start-up sells specialities from conflict regions to promote small farmers and peace

Saffron from Afghanistan and freekeh wheat from Palestine are culinary specialities that are imported to and sold in Germany as conflict food. The goal of the social start-up: to open up new perspectives for small farmers divorced from opium, for example in the Hindu Kush, through direct trade and thus to help foster peace and development in the long run. Some of the revenue is channelled back into educational projects. In Germany, the goods are packaged in workshops for people with disabilities. Each product is accompanied by a special newspaper that provides information that does not focus on crises but on culture, history, and hospitality.
