Dementia flat shares – self-determined life in Bavaria
Flat share instead of nursing home
A cooperative project furnishes residential homes for dementia patients who live in the country
Residents of supervised flat shares for people with dementia in Bavaria can now participate in society regardless of their age or their illness. The Maro Cooperative for Self-Determined and Neighbourly Living launched the project. It specializes in building flats that people with dementia and people in need of care can share, and enables older people, who are ill to remain in their hometown and lead independent lives. The model also helps younger people: by buying a stake in the cooperative, they support construction of further flats for people with dementia.
