Demonstration facility for burning and fermenting brewers' grains
Energy from beer residue
Combining biological, mechanical, and thermal methods optimizes the use of brewers’ grains for energy
Price wars in the beer sector are putting small and medium-sized rural breweries under pressure. So countryside brewers are happy about new ideas for reducing energy costs. A new method is currently being developed by the Munich University of Technology and the Frauenhofer UMSICHT in Sulzbach-Rosenberg in conjunction with the Weisses Bräuhaus brewery could be ground-breaking in the future. With the method, brewers’ grains – malt residue drained during the brewing process – could be used right at the brewery in a biomass heating plant for generating heat for the brewery. This would not only benefit the company, but also the environment and the climate.
