Digital interpreter in the waiting room

A digital communication tool helps doctors provide better treatment to patients who don’t speak German

What complaints do you have? Do you have any existing medical conditions? A patient’s medical history is the basis for successful treatment. But in their busy everyday routine, doctors have little time for it. This can lead to misunderstandings, especially with non-German-speaking patients. The digital tool DICTUM builds a communicative bridge. In the waiting room, the patient answers questions in their own language on a tablet, without the need for an interpreter. The doctor uses the translated summary in the subsequent consultation. The project is currently being trialled at the infirmary of the Friedland border transit camp. The long-term plan is to make the software available to all doctors.
