The digital stereo operation microscope visually enlarges the operating field: with a camera high-resolution images are transferred to a monitor in 3D. This creates the best conditions for the microsurgeon to carry out delicate precision work, for example in neurosurgical operations. Assistants and operating room nurses follow the surgery together on a monitor. Another advantage: the novel system can be combined with existing technical components from endoscopy, thus making it much less expensive than conventional stereo operating room microscopes.
