Bees not only produce honey, but also play a key ecological role as pollinators of flowering plants. But many puzzles surrounding this useful insect have still not been solved. To close this knowledge gap, the europafels assocation and pupils in the city of Würzburg developed the HOBeeBox, a high-tech beehive that via sensors collects data on the behaviour of its inhabitants, for example the number of flights. In cooperation with educational partners across Europe, a network of measuring stations is to be created. The high-tech boxes provide valuable results that sensitise pupils to the benefits of nature and improve the living conditions of bees.
