discovering hands – early recognition of breast cancer with the help of blind women

Seeing with hands

A start-up trains visually impaired women to work in breast-cancer prevention

They recognize tissue changes that many doctors miss: blind women can use their trained sense of touch to preventively examine breast-cancer patients. For the earlier the disease is discovered, the better the healing chances. To discover lumps or ulcers, blind or severely visually impaired women are trained to become Medical Tactile Examiners (MTU). The program was developed by the start-up "discovering hands". The idea benefits both patients and blind women, for whom the project opens up new professional perspectives.
