Meadows, moors, undeveloped hillsides: people who live in the Achental valley in Bavaria recognized the region’s capital early on – the intact nature there. Fifteen years ago, nine municipalities initiated a federation called Eco Model Achental. Whether it’s carbon-dioxide-neutral heating generated by a jointly used wood-fired power plant, orchards used for the production of organic cider and jam, or jointly developed touristic offers, the valley focuses on sustainability and protects nature and secures jobs at the same time.
