'Engineers without Borders Challenge’ student competition
Development aid as part of the curriculum
Young engineers develop solutions for real problems in developing countries as part of a competition
Cisterns for a village in Tanzania, electric lighting and sanitary facilities for schools in Mozambique or Cameroon: in the ‘Engineers Without Borders Germany Challenge’ competition, students develop sustainable solutions for problems facing the aid organisation Engineers Without Borders Germany in developing countries. What’s special about the competition is that it is built into the young engineers’ curriculum. They spend one semester working on designs and models; the best are awarded prizes and, ideally, implemented. The competition gives students an opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge – and to tackle global problems, together.
