Young people from across Germany who work as mentors for the Tausche Bildung Wohnen (Exchange Education for Living) do not have to pay rent as of the summer of 2014. The prerequisite for participating in the unusual exchange offer is social involvement. Young people who support children from socially disadvantaged families, say, by helping them with their homework on a regular basis, can live in a building financed by the organization for free. The mentors assist their protégés in churches, schools, or youth centres, which provide them with free housing. Conversely, the mentors support the partner institutions.
