GemüseAckerdemie
Farming creates knowledge
An extracurricular educational program imparts integrated knowledge about farming and healthy nutrition
A visit by pupils to his parents’ farm inspired the scientist Dr. Christoph Schmitz to found the “GemüseAckerdemie”. The extracurricular educational program, which is carried out in cooperation with farmers, volunteer mentors, and educationists in Berlin-Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia, seeks to arouse young people’s enthusiasm for agriculture. In small groups, pupils grow more than 30 different kinds of vegetables. They can also test their knowledge online. The goal is to enable children and youth to gain an understanding of natural processes and become critical consumers.
