Green railway station in Horrem
Paving the way for climate protection
Thanks to energy-efficient environmental technology, a regional railway station becomes the first CO2-neutral train station
Photovoltaic installations on the roof, rooms heated with geothermal energy, and rainwater collected for various uses – German Rail built the “green railway station” in the Horrem district of Kerpen with two main aims: to make the train station customer-friendly and climate-friendly. Therefore, the building concept relies on energy-efficient environmental technologies, regional materials, and lots of daylight. This saves electricity, protects natural resources, and makes the building bright and clearly arranged. With a park-and-ride system and a bike and bus station, the railway station also is a mobility hub.
