As in many rural regions, there is a shortage of family doctors and specialists in Waldeck-Frankenberg in the German federal state of Hesse. The situation will get even worse in the future unless countermeasures are taken. And that is exactly what the district is doing. Together with medical practitioners and a medical association, it is attracting young doctors via a website expressly created for this purpose. The offer includes a further education package, including mentoring and internships, and a welcome service that helps the doctors to find housing and day-care spots, thus facilitating their arrival in the region.
