HuT learning workshop – handicrafts and technology for refugees
A workbench instead of a waiting bench
Retirees teach refugees handicrafts skills and prepare them for professional life
Many refugees who arrive in Germany are ready to work. But most of them first have to wait. To offer them a meaningful occupation during this period, retirees founded the Handicrafts and Technology Learning Workshop. Without having to wait and regardless of their asylum status, refugees can receive pre-vocational training there three afternoons a week and learn manual skills that can be valuable for rebuilding their home country. In addition, they gain professional experience and learn German . Materials and tools were donated by the public, and the finished products are given to social associations.
