Hydro Solution water filtration method
Trickle-down economics
An inexpensive new filtration method empowers people in Africa to produce their own drinking water
Water is a human right. But to this day, around eleven percent of the world’s population have no access to clean drinking water. The student association Hydro Solution wants to change this. Its ‘slow-sand filtration’ method makes it possible to filter out up to 99 percent of pathogenic germs. Together with local partners on the ground, the association also helps people help themselves. People in Kenya and Burkina Faso who have little or only contaminated water at their disposal learn how to inexpensively make the filters themselves. A project that improves the economic situation in developing countries – and makes the valuable resource of water accessible to more people.
