The stove shuts itself off, the windows are controlled automatically, and the room temperature is self-regulating: technical assistance systems improve the living quality, security, and independence of people with dementia. In Duisburg, these technologies are already being tested in practice, and 21 residents who live in three shared flats are benefitting. In addition, the innovations facilitate the work of the staff that look after the flat mates on an outpatient basis round the clock.
