Integrativer Ort BauDENKMAL! Project
With a scalpel and a glass-fibre brush
Refugees actively participate in the restoration of monuments in Saxony-Anhalt
A lot of patience and above all sensitivity are needed to restore historic monuments. Refugees learned how this works in educational seminars of the project Integrativer Ort BauDENKMAL! in an exchange on an equal footing. In a centuries-old half-timbered building, they not only used a hammer and chisel, but also a scalpel and glass-fibre brush. Together with local carpenters, restorers, and stone masons, they removed layers of paint from beams and doors. With the project the iniitiative of the Deutsches Fachwerkzentrums Quedlinburg aims to strengthen intercultural exchange in German society.
