Intelligent street lighting, including a 22kW e-Mobility charging point
A pilot project is converting public-lighting systems to smart poles and equipping them with Wi-Fi, as e-charging stations or for environmental data-collection, among other purposes.
Lanterns have unique properties: they are everywhere—on streets, in public spaces and parking lots. They have electricity connections and some have Internet connections. Approximately nine million public lamps exist throughout Germany. Smart Pole Factory wants these street lamps to become intelligent, networked Smart Poles. In addition to LED lighting, they would also have an integrated charging station and offer free Wi-Fi. Sensor-based applications can enable the measurement of environmental data, motion detectors and the detection of free parking spaces. Additional services such as parking guidance or traffic-flow control are both conceivable and feasible. Currently, the use of Smart Poles is being tested in various cities: Bochum, Velbert and the small towns of Traben-Trarbach (Moselle) and Erndtebrück.
