ioki Hamburg: The on-demand shuttle for the first and last mile
An on-demand shuttle complements Hamburg’s public transport network.
The ioki Hamburg Shuttle is a new public transport system without a fixed timetable or lines that can be ordered via app and integrated in the tariff of the Hamburg Transport Association (HVV). The project is the brainchild of the Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein GmbH (VHH) and ioki, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn specialized in on-demand mobility.
At ioki Hamburg, passengers with similar routes are automatically bundled into carpools using an algorithm; they will then be driven together. The fleet consists of low-emission electric cars from the British manufacturer LEVC. The vehicles have six seats and are barrier-free: wheelchair users and baby strollers can be transported comfortably, and each car also has a child seat available. The service is available 24 hours a day, and for a surcharge of just one euro on top of the local transport ticket.
