VOLABO GmbH has developed a new type of electric drive known as ISCAD (Intelligent Stator Cage Drive). It is up to 25 percent more efficient than conventional electric motors and requires no rare earth elements in its production, which makes it both environmentally sustainable and resource-conserving. To date, the trend in electromobility has been towards 400 to 800 volts. VOLABO is taking a different path. With just 48 volts, it is creating a new system that is absolutely safe even in the event of an accident.
For nearly 130 years, complicated copper coils have been used in electric motors. VOLABO uses simple aluminium rods instead. By individually controlling these rods, a virtual transmission can be created – an unprecedented feature in electromobility – with an effect comparable to that of a manual transmission in vehicles with an internal combustion engine. The motor thus continually adapts to the driving situation, resulting in enormous energy savings compared to conventional electric drives.
