Joie de vivre – network for dementia patients
Joining forces to prevent forgetting
A network of professionals and volunteers enables people with dementia to lead autonomous lives in the country
Young people are leaving villages, while older people remain. The consequence: the number of dementia patients is growing in rural regions of Germany. The South Brandenburg Doctors Network has found a way to enable people with dementia to lead independent lives, thus taking the burden off their families. Doctors, case mangers, district nurses, and volunteers organize help for self-help and offer a care infrastructure. The offer also includes therapy groups and day-care spots. A dementia flat-sharing community is planned for the future. With its work, the initiative is helping to improve health care in the Elbe-Elster region.
