Jühnde – bioenergy village 2.0
A village full of energy
Step for step, a rural community is becoming independent of fossil energy sources
The village of Jühnde in southern Lower Saxony is a pioneer of the energy turnaround in Germany. In 2005, it became the first municipality to generate its own electricity and heat exclusively from renewable sources such as grain and manure. Today, the village produces more energy than it needs. Jühnde wants to use these surpluses to operate electric cars and thus also become pioneers of environment-friendly mobility. To this end, charging stations and an e-car-sharing model were initiated. Also in the works is a competence centre where companies can introduce themselves and visitors can obtain information about regenerative energies and e-mobility.
