Like many parents, Anke Odrig had difficulty finding a spot for her child at a day-care centre in Berlin. She was put on waiting lists everywhere. So the former SAP manager developed software called LITTLE BIRD that can be used to manage the city’s complete day-care offer. With the software, cities get a better overview of how many children are registered at which pre-schools and where places are available. Long waiting periods and double registrations are avoided. LITTLE BIRD is already used by eight German municipalities. To boot, the software enables parents to be active participants in the process of allocating pre-school spots.
