Living Lab "Fraunhofer electromobility"
Parking garage as research lab
Scientists develop an intelligent power network for electric vehicle fleets
On the Frauenhofer campus in Stuttgart, future mobility has already become a reality. Up to 30 electric cars can tank up on energy in the research institute’s parking garage, making it Germany’s largest electricity charging station. In the “living lab”, tests will be conducted until 2014 to see how electric vehicle fleets can be managed in technical terms: How can an overload of the station be avoided? How can an intelligent electricity network be developed in which photovoltaic units provide electric cars with power? The institute is developing a suitable charging infrastructure.
