Metropolitan area project – “Thalia Cultural Landscapes”
When an shipyard becomes a stage
With readings and plays, actors transform historic buildings into extraordinary cultural venues in the country
A thatched sheepfold, a granary, and a scrapped freighter are not typical venues for high culture. But the ensemble of the Thalia theatre turned them into a stage in an effort to bring world-class acting to villages and towns in the country. The goal of this unusual cooperation between the theatre and the Hamburg metropolitan area is to promote cultural exchange between the Hanseatic city and outlying areas and to focus on cultural and touristic insiders’ tips. Hamburg is benefitting as a location for business from the improved quality of life and so are the people in the region.
