In Gersheim, the Town Hall is on wheels. The municipality in Saarland with a population of 7,000 has reacted to demographic change and local authorities can now visit older, disabled, and ill citizens in their homes with the “mobile Town Hall”. The staff have a suitcase containing everything needed to apply for a pension or a get a new ID. Residents can even vote in their own living rooms, at no extra charge. As a result, rural residents will be able to take care of necessary red tape without any help in the future.
