Multimodal and socially just – Lincoln in Darmstadt
The Darmstadt district of Lincoln is a model for sustainable mobility and development.
Germany’s cities are growing, and Darmstadt is no exception. In addition to increased demand for housing, there is also more traffic and its corresponding increase of noise and emissions. A new residential quarter—the Lincoln-Siedlung – therefore relies on a sustainable mobility concept.
A variety of multimodal offers will enable residents to shape their mobility with a minimum of individualised car traffic. The offers range from local public-transport, car sharing and residential e-car pooling to bike sharing and e-bikes. In order to create incentives for residents to give up their own cars, three „mein lincolnmobil“ electric vehicles are already available to current residents free of charge for up to four hours per week. In addition, there is a free mobility consultation, which provides suggestions for optimising individual mobility needs. The Lincoln settlement is thus pursuing a holistic approach that paves the way for the smart city.
