New Urban Mobility Concept – The Schaeffler Mover
A vehicle platform serves as the basis for various autonomous-vehicle variations, and demonstrates a novel, flexible mobility-solution, Deutscher Mobilitätspreis, 2019
In the competition for new, networked and autonomous mobility solutions, many companies around the world are currently developing different shuttle-bus concepts to simplify the transport of passengers and goods in a flexible way. The Schaeffler Mover concept fundamentally questions current vehicle structures: The small, manoeuvrable vehicle is 100% electrically powered and—equipped with various add-ons—can be used in urban areas for flexible transport tasks. The Intelligent Corner Module, which is installed in every corner of the Mover, allows a wheel angle of up to 90 degrees and can turn the Mover 360 degrees on a dime. This is made possible by the modules’ wheel-hub motor and wheel suspension, which permits for electromechanical steering. This in turn allows the vehicle to be manoeuvred in narrow streets and even for perpendicular parking, if it allows passengers to get in and out more easily. The technology platform of the Schaeffler Mover is also designed to be flexible: depending on requirements, different vehicle bodies can be implemented to serve as autonomous taxis and autonomous delivery vehicles.
