Old cotton: new city centre for Flöha
A marketplace where a spinning wheel once stood
An old factory is reused, finally giving a scattered town a centre
For more than 185 years, the cotton mill was the most important employer in the Saxon town of Flöha. Starting in 1994, it stood vacant for a long time. It was revived in 2006, as a centre for a spread-out community. With a marketplace, town hall, day-care centre, library, shopping centre, and restaurants, “Old Cotton”, as it was called, is now the site of an appealing offer for all residents. And plans are in place to build flats on the grounds, which will make it easier for older citizens in particular to take part in social life. Centrally located, the mill is easy to reach for everybody.
