Querfeld sales platform
A second chance for unloved fruit
A start-up sells fruit and vegetables with minor blemishes so they don't go to waste
Almost a third of all fruit and vegetables in Germany does not end up on our plates, but not because they are spoiled. On the contrary, they are as fresh as all the rest. Farmers sort out the products that do not meet consumers' aesthetic requirements curved cucumbers or knobbly potatoes, for instance, which end up in a biogas plant or, in the worst case, in the rubbish bin. Querfeld seeks to put an end to such waste and encourage people to rethink. Via an online platform the start-up intends to create networks between producers and dealers and offer fruit with defects for sale. The result: food losses are reduced, producers earn more, and consumers benefit from cheaper products.
