Robot assistant: German Bionic CRAY X
An exoskeleton for healthier lifting
A technical system helps people lift heavy loads, and prevents back strain
In beetles and other insects, a chitinous exoskeleton protects the internal organs and is the starting point for muscles. Inspired by nature, an exoskeleton has now been designed to help people lift heavy objects correctly. The model developed by the robot specialist GBS German Bionic Systems is attached to the back and thighs. Motors help the wearer to return to an upright position – like a robot worn on the body. The human-machine system combines human intelligence with mechanical power to reduce the risk of conditions caused by overloading – including absence due to inability to work. Future areas of use could include the construction, automotive production, and logistics sectors.
