roofTUBgarden – The edible roof garden
Fresh from the roof
A roof garden ensures that socially disadvantaged people can eat a variety of healthy foods
Freshly harvested fruit and vegetables straight from the city – that is Kulina’s idea. Under the name “roofTUBgarden”, the organization has engaged in “urban farming” since June 2013, planting crops on the roof of the main building of the Berlin Institute of Technology. Socially disadvantaged citizens can participate and stock up on fruit and vegetables. The project also shows them how easy it would be for them to plant tomatoes, strawberries, and the like themselves. In cooking courses, interested people learn how to nourish themselves with healthy food inexpensively. The initiative whets urbanites’ appetites for self-harvested food and heightens their ecological awareness to boot.
