Ruhr Region Pixel Project
Photographic memory of a region
A virtual album publishes photos of a region focusing on its cultural transformation
While the industrial Ruhr region used to be characterised by mining, today creative people, academics, and people from across the globe are leaving their mark on the area. How have structural changes transformed the cities in the region? How did people used to live there and how do they live today? Countless professional photographers provide answers to these questions, but their photos often lay forgotten in drawers. The Ruhr Region Pixel Project brings these photographs to light. An expert jury chooses which photos are shown in the virtual gallery and in exhibitions. And viewers can make up their own minds about the region’s transformation.
